ABOUT LIZARDIST

A world of lizards.
Worth understanding.

A reference library for people who want to understand the animals they share their homes with.

Explore the animal first

Lizardist brings species care, housing, feeding and health into a connected library. Start at the species hub and follow the question that interests you.

Reference tools for real questions

The morph atlas and food finder are designed for detailed questions that deserve more than a one-line answer.

A library, not a storefront

The purpose of the site is to help readers understand their animals and make informed care decisions. Gear guides belong within that larger context.

What you will find here

More than 1,200 guides covering over 150 lizard species, from first time pets such as bearded dragons and leopard geckos to monitors, tegus, chameleons and skinks. Each species has an overview, and the most popular species have full libraries on housing, heat and lighting, diet, health and behavior.

The bearded dragon library alone holds more than 470 guides, including single food guides, feeder insects, health signs and enclosure equipment. Morph guides and calculators explain color and pattern genetics for the species where morphs are common.

How every guide is researched

Guides are built from veterinary and scientific references: veterinary manuals, university veterinary hospitals, exotic animal medicine resources, peer reviewed studies and official nutrient databases. Each guide ends with the sources it used, so you can check the evidence yourself.

Facts are kept species specific. When a number comes from a related species or from reptiles in general, the guide says so instead of presenting it as fact for your animal.

What we do not do

Lizardist does not sell animals or link to breeders and sellers. Health guides help you recognize a problem and prepare for a visit, but they never give medication doses and always point you to a reptile veterinarian. We never claim to have tested a product we have not tested.

How the site is funded

Some guides link to equipment on Amazon, and Lizardist earns from qualifying purchases. Care advice is decided first and products second. Read the affiliate disclosure and the privacy policy for details.
